What if we went to live with an aunt and uncle on a farm…we would care for the animals, sow and harvest the crops, and cook the meals. We would spend most of our time out in the sunshine, working on something real that taught us lessons about ourselves, human nature, and the planet on which we live. – Montessori for Everyone
During a week-long visit, your class will be fully immersed in the real life of the farm, with the animals, in the kitchen, barns and gardens.
A typical day follows a natural flow based not on time or adult constructs but on the season and what’s required for the farm to function. Chores, projects and free-range time are arranged in extended periods so that children can explore the environment, discover, choose and enjoy the work they love, while also cultivating basic life skills.
Children learn that decision-making has real outcomes, cooperation (or lack) is clear to see, the classroom community builds along with individual confidence, awareness of self and others, and an appreciation for life and complexity.
